Reading Week 2 Anthology

Reading Notes- Metamorphoses by Tony Kline

Pygmalion created a woman statue so beautiful that every bachelor would fall in love with her. He fell in love with her and adorn her until Venus's Festival. There he made his offering. Golden Venus turned her into a real woman and brought upon their marriage. The woman later gave birth to a son, Paphos, who the island is named after.

Italian Popular Tales By Jack Zipes
I am really excited about this class! Some of the stories I saw as I was looking through seem really interesting. I also want to see some of the stories of places from where my family is from and some of our history-so I am really excited about the Jewish fairy tales section. Also, some of my other interests get to combine with the stories in this class which is exciting. I am excited to read the Italian stories and see if I have heard of any in my Italian classes!

Time Strategies

Time Strategies

My schedule in theory still works. I just have a very inconsistent work schedule so it will all depend on when I am scheduled! I am at the mercy of corporate America. But, I will not let that take all of my time.

3 Steps to Recapture Time

- chunk my time.
I need to try that. Instead of trying to complete one task, it's easier and more rewarding to do 3. I like this idea.
-pruning season
This tip was ok. It needed more specifics. I could be on board but I don't know
-practice the art of no
I need to do this more. I say yes to everything. I am aware but I have not made the changes.

- basically, we check our emails then make no actin and just are stressed all the time. I'm not sure if I do this or if it applies to students. Most of the emails I get are useless, and I just delete them all--taking action.  That's what most people do.

Assignments and Tools Overview

Assignments Overview

As I was a student in the other class just, I am already incredibly familiar with the assignments. I enjoyed the assignments and had fun--as I am back. My favorite by far was the Storybook. however, the weekly stories, surprisingly, were my least favorite. Likely, because I never gave myself quite enough time to allow myself to get creative with them. I hope to do that this semester more this semester, as I have less of a class load.

Also, I did not do much extra credit until the last couple of weeks. There are some cool options. I should have done more. They are quite fun!

With Technology, the bookmarking tip is no joke. I started doing that halfway through the semester and it was life-changing. I also didn't want to bookmark everything, so I had an unpublished blog post with links to a bunch of sources. That was very smart.

Growth Mindset

Growth Mindset

I took Indian Epics last year, so I was introduced to Carol Dweck then. However, I don't remember many specifics so I thoroughly refreshed myself. She has decent ideas but Alfie Kohn's critiques are very important. So much of school is memorizing facts and cramming them into short term memory, instead of trying to improve ourselves with education. Also, we focus heavily on the result on the performance that student's self-worth relies upon it and that does not prepare them or help them in any which way.

While here at OU, I took four semesters Latin, and it was my hardest class because it goes twice the speed of other languages. The speed and complexity I had to handle in such short amounts of time, made me lose my enjoyment of the language for a short while. However, when I got to the "harder" semesters the curriculum slowed down and I could appreciate the language, I finally started to enjoy it because I wasn't just worried about memorizing so many concepts at once.

Introduction

Introduction

My name is Caitlin Schneider and I am a Junior Letters Constitutional Studies Major. The best thing about my major is its small size. I love it when I walk into my classes and know almost everyone there. I would like to eventually to litigation and I am leaning towards international litigation.

My Roommates and I on the First Day of School

I graduated high school from a tiny school (59 in my graduating class) in Kansas, but I lived most of my life in Washington State, in the suburbs of Seattle. I chose OU because I did not like KU. Their campus culture didn't feel like home, and it was really hilly. Also, I lived way to close (only about 45 minutes away) and wanted more of an adventure.

I have six pets-- two dogs-- Tar and Roxy-- and my sister's cat gave birth to four kittens this summer that I hand raised. Tar is a sweet, gentle giant but he is so needy for attention, it can be rough. I love him, but he is very big and will climb into my lap and then I can't breathe. Roxy is sassy as her name suggests. She has small dog syndrome very bad and believes she is the alpha of the house. The kittens idolize Tar and act very much like him, so they behave like a weird dog/cat hybrid. They wag their tails!

Storybook Favorites

Storybook Favorites

I took the Indian Epics class and enjoyed this project greatly. I am excited to see the creativity displayed for this class!

The Relentless Rage of Cu Chulainn

So this is very well written grammatically, but I still have issues with the characters of the stories. A dog attacks a six-year-old but the owner is angry about his dog? Where is any value in human life? When Cu Chulainn grows up and interacts with the Evil Queen she also isn't very evil. She is a bad leader, but Ch Chulainn is much more despicable. However, he went six months without sleep, and I would behave that way if I was that tired too.

The Sacred Brown Bull

I am very interested in reading the Scottish tales. This is very interest and battle centered. It also had a female main character which is exciting, despite the fact, she was evil for no reason.

Go Greece Or Go Home

I really liked this story. It gave me some serious Percy Jackson Vibes. --> I wrote this before I read the author's note. I love how Mr. Pose is a Snape like a character without all his faults in Harry Potter which makes him completely unforgivable. In this state, he is more of a figure with a motive so not so evil. The only issue I have with the story is I feel with so much pent up anger it resolved itself too quickly.

In The Seven Woods

I need to look up the province of Ulster. It has been referenced often. I really like the story. The dialect is actually gone after and I admire that. Also, he doesn't try to reveal too much about to characters too quickly so there is a nice natural development. The characters also are all really original! I love Queen Maeve and that Aillinn rescued herself. I kinda hate the ending because it's not happy but I respect it. I wanted them to be returned to the land of the living because the proved themselves.

Favorite Place

                                             Switzerland

This past summer I studied abroad in Italy and knocked many places off my bucket list, but I was unable to make it to the country just north, Switzerland. I have quite a connection to this country. My great-great-grandparents on my dad's side immigrated from there. My family is still in regular contact with some of my cousins who live in Zurich. I really want to one day visit and see where my family came from.

Additionally,  one of my favorite books, Frankenstein, was written on a summer vacation at Lake Geneva. Switzerland is full of beautiful scenes that I want to experience and see.
