My favorite picture from the announcements
I really like this picture because I love these comics. Honestly, nothing else. I love these!

Here is a link to my favorite video from the class announcements.

It talks about a movie called Conspiracy which is about Nazis. I am drawn to things like this because my grandparents never talked about their experiences.

Writers Write-

Why Writers Should Know About Monsters Before They Write a Word

By Christopher Luke Dean

Monsters are important to so many types of writing. They keep things interesting! The article suggests looking at folklore to find inspiration for a monster. Tolkien's monsters have roots in Scandinavian stories. Then the next monsters suggest are demons and devils. The background and sources for these are provided. However, those are not all the monsters out there and he provides some other places to find other monsters.

Hans, a monster who is not a "monster"

I chose this little piece because I never write scary stories. I never even watch them. But monsters are everywhere. A good villain makes a story. So, I thought reading this could help me come up with other ideas for stories. In my next story in my storybook, I do plan for Dante to encounter the Devil. I am nervous to have him do so. I thought reading a little bit more might help.

Famous Last Words: Week 14

Famous Last Words

So, this week has been good and it will be good. I went home this past weekend, so I am feeling refreshed. My dad also bought me groceries so I am ready to fuel my mind this week— on something other than ramen! Now that I have healthy foods, my week is going well. I have breakfast foods now too so in my morning classes now I am not as tired.

The reading for this week I enjoyed much more than last weeks. Last weeks was all written in a poetry style and in older English so it was hard to read. Now, this week I focused on Italian stories, which is a place I have done a lot of studying about. It was nice having context of this place after going there this summer. For example in on of the stories it mentions a snake, but the Italian peninsula only has one venomous snake so I liked that I could picture exactly what it was talking about.

I am excited about this week because there will be a benefit night for College bowl- an exec I am on and have helped plan. SO if anyone reads this, on Thursday go to Qdoba on campus. It will be a lot of fun to see it become real.

Then he married her sister. But the same thing happened. SO he married the third sister. This sister was not caught by her flowers, so she went and got her sisters out of hell. Story Week 13

The Proud Toad

The Ox was roaming the field. It was a hot day so she decided to stop a get a drink at the pond. She was trying to relax and cool off. She stopped underneath a tree by the pond and decided to rest. All was good until a toad started croaking in her ear to get her attention. Startled because she thought she was alone, she asked him, "Hi, do you need something."

The Toad responded, "Only a second of your time dear, then you'll stick by forever."

Disgusted by his confidence and overestimation of himself, she tried to deflect. She just wanted to relax at the pond, but he kept following her around the edges. "Um, what do you mean?" She finally responded when she could not lose him.

"You're the most gorgeous thing I have ever seen. I am going to wow you so you stay here forever." He sang.

"Oh. Are you? But I like guys who are tall, bigger, and stronger than me?"

The Toad immediately was offended but then retorted, "Well, I can get bigger."

"Show me." She challenged him.

With that, he puffed and puffed until his chest was full of air. The ox laughed at his attempt. "You're still too small! Try some more"

Determined, he puffed his chest, even more, straining his skin from green to red, but he still was less than a quarter of her size. So, he tried to puff again one more time to satisfy the ox. However, this puff was too much. With the intake of air, the Toad split in half.

Author's Note- The Proud Frog Aesops Tales

This story is loosely based on The Proud Frog. However, since it is one of Aesop's tales, it is written in a strange hard to understand rhyme. I did not want to try to replicate that, so I wrote it in much more simpler and easy to understand language. However, I kept the story relatively the same. What I did change was the details. I made the frog into a toad because toads are load and larger than frogs. It made more sense for a toad to get the ox's attention and attempt to be the same size. I also changed the circumstances the toad increases its size. I thought this situation was more relatable and more fun than a little competition- imagine a toad liking an ox!

Story Lab: Week 12

Writers Write

I LOVE this option. It gets me all sentimental and reflective. I usually do it after work, so it's also a great way to decompress after a very stressful day.

43 Ways to Write about Love Amanda Patterson

This article caught my eye because lately, I have been feeling lonely. By my age, my parents were married, my roommates all have boyfriends and six months ago I broke up with my serious boyfriend. It was for the best, but there are parts of having someone and being in love I miss. I am taking the year to be single and learn about myself because I don't want to waste away my life by giving it someone else unprepared and immature. This is an important time of my life and I want it to be about me, not them.
This doesn't mean I still don't spend time thinking about it. Because I have detached myself from it, every time I try writing a story about a relationship, it feels unauthentic. Likely, because those feelings are hard to replicate onto a screen. The first section I want to write down so I remember is don't forget about the complexity of the feeling. It is more than just romantic. It is passionate and platonic too. What I forget about a lot too is the body language involved, The most special feelings are like when someone grazes their thumb across your hand or the little touches. Or how you tend to swing your arms you are s happy--- I really like that one.
